Course Description:
The Practical Nursing Program at J´Reneé Career is a certificate program which prepares LPNs to provide nursing care to clients with normal and common health problems through the use of basic nursing skills under the direction of a registered professional nurse, licensed physician, dentist, or podiatrist.

The program consists of classroom instruction, faculty supervised Simulation Laboratory and clinical experiences in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community health care settings.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates receive a certificate in Practical Nursing and Pharmacology. Graduates are eligible to apply to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN®). Eligibility to sit for the NCLEX-PN® is determined by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

The LPN program is approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois State Board of Nursing.

Course Details:

  • The J´Reneé LPN Program is a full-time, one-year program involving 688 hours of classroom and clinical experiences.

  • Class sizes are small and are based on the Adult Learning Theory.

  • Daytime and evening classes are available. Students attend classes Monday – Friday. Contact the Admissions Office for the current and upcoming schedules.

  • Program contents include: Pharmacology Principles for Nursing Practice; Professional Nursing Prospectives; Adult Health Nursing I--Gerontological Nursing Practice; Adult Health Nursing II--Introduction to Medical Surgical Nursing Practice; Adult Health Nursing III--Medical Surgical Nursing Practice; Intro to Obstetrical Nursing Practice; Intro to Pediatric Nursing Practice; Intro to Mental Health Nursing Practice; Transition to Practice & Licensure Preparation.

Admission Requirements:
The Practical Nursing Program has a selective admissions process and has limited seating. All students applying for the LPN program must meet the following requirements:

Note: Classes from other institutions will be considered for transfer credit. To be evaluated, an official transcript must be received through the mail sent directly from the institution to J´Reneé Career at 7105 N. Virginia Rd., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.


Application Process:

1) A one-time student application must be submitted to enroll in any J´Reneé program. The application fee is $35. Payments are accepted in cash, check or credit card. Students may complete their applications in advance by utilizing the link below, or they may be completed on campus during their
admissions appointment.

ENROLLMENT APPLICATION

2) Submit transcripts from other institutions to have prerequisite courses evaluated.

3) Enroll in, attend and complete prerequisite courses, if necessary.

4) Sign up for and take Placement Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI-TEAS) in Reading, Mathematics, Science and English.

5) Submit a 500 word personal essay describing personal and professional goals, health care experiences, etc.

6) Submit 3 letters of recommendation from professional sources (ie., supervisors, co-workers, teachers, etc.).

7) Interview with members of the faculty committee.

8) If accepted, students must attend mandatory Nursing Orientation.

9) If accepted, students will undergo a criminal background check and must submit health and immunization records as required by the Illinois Department of Public Health. All students will also be required to have a drug test.


Tuition:
Contact the Admissions Office for the current program tuition. Tuition includes: course materials, Nursing Uniform and Lab coat with School Logo, Nursing Student Name Badge, Nursing Kit with Lab Supplies, supervised clinical, career counseling and job placement assistance. A down payment is required to enroll in the program. Students may participate in a quarterly payment plan at no additional costs or finance charges. See also Financial Assistance for resources.
